Martin
Visser, President, owns and operates VISSER POTATO LTD.
He was born in South Gravendeel in the Netherlands, and came
to Canada at the young age of 18. After living in Ontario
for several years, he came to Prince Edward Island, where he
commenced growing and exporting potatoes. Martin was well established in his own farming operation
when his two grown-up sons showed interest in potato farming and
thus became involved in the family farm. Martin had more time for creating markets for table and seed potatoes.
He relied on his experience of the potato industry and his
understanding of potato markets to establish VISSER POTATO
LTD.
In 1976, Martin Visser and his close working business
partner, the late Harold Cairns, formed the export company
VISSER POTATO LTD. Harold worked with Martin for more
than 25 years, and fought the battle against cancer bravely
to the end in May 2002. With the help of his staff, Martin
continues to deliver the top quality product we are well
known for today.
In
the late 90's Harold Cairns started a greenhouse operation to grow
minitubers. The minitubers are sold to growers, closely monitored and government inspected
to ensure high quality crops.
